2020/2021 Shepton Mallet Prison
Peter's Blog
Three of us visited Shepton Mallet Prison on Thursday 10th September which has been open to the public for a couple of years. It is England's oldest prison but has now been decommissioned. Steve Hallam, Lloyd and myself met at Harlequins Cafe, Kilver Court for a coffee and then walked to the prison. It is a fascinating place to visit and just a bit eerie and gruesome in some cases but great for photography if you want to try taking pictures of something different. It can feel claustrophobic but if you can abide that definitely worth a visit and there also lots of information boards to read. We visited the old J S Haskins shop which is now a restaurant and multi shop retail space for a very nice lunch and then after walking through Collett Park went back to Harlequin Cafe for another drink before going home.
