We visit the large and historic village of Evercreech near Shepton Mallet where we meet outside the village church at 10.30am which if open is well worth a visit. We will go on a two and a half mile flat walk which may be muddy in parts and this will take in many of the old and historic building, domestic and commercial, I aim to book a table at The Bell Inn for 1.00pm which is a large and very good pub opposite the church. If the weather is good we you may want to visit somewhere else in the afternoon.

Thursday 9th September

This day out is on a Thursday as the house is only open three days during the week. We meet at the nearby Longborough Food Store & Cafe post code GL56 0QZ at 11.00am for a drink and a snack or at the house and gardens at 12.30pm. The house is a very rare Mogul designed building and one of a very few in Western Europe. It is free for Friends of the Historic Houses Association. I suggest booking the 2.00pm tour which you will need to do on-line and well in advance but if you only want to visit the gardens you do not need to book. The gardens are superb and depending on the weather should supply you with many photographic opportunities. No photography is allowed in the house. There is a very good tea room in the orangery.

Afterwards as we are travelling some way to North Gloucestershire I suggest booking the nearby Coach & Horses Pub in Longborough, a super Donnington Ales Pub for 6.00pm. The church in the village is well worth a visit and usually open.

Please let me know if you want to come along.

Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale

This is advance notice to you that I will be organising another week away to this lovely location on the edge of The Yorkshire Dales in 2021. This is a rebooking of the trip we had planned this year and a few of us have decided to go to Falmouth instead which should be safer. I have found a promising B&B in the heart of the town close to pubs and all amenities and if this proves to be good I will use it. I have booked rooms for four of us so far but please let me know asap if you wanted to go in 2021

There is a wealth of locations to photograph in the immediate area.

Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Gardens which is a World Heritage Site. It is the most beautiful ruined abbey I have seen and in Autumn it should be superb.

Brimham Rocks- amazing rock formations.

How Stean Gorge- a natural wonder. Ramsgill-attractive village. Ripley & Ripley Castle. Ripon & its cathedral. There are also a few reservoirs and many natural features worth visiting and photographing.

Please contact Peter direct if you have any queries
